To our Bulldog Family,

We would like to begin by thanking you, our Bulldog Community for your patience as our admin team navigated the terms and information provided in regards to the CWELCC.

As a childcare centre, Bulldog has always strived to offer a high quality, active and engaging program. Our programming, activities, materials and staffing come with a higher financial cost. For us, it was imperative to evaluate the impact that enrolling in the CWELCC would have on our organization, on our staff wages and on the program quality that we have meticulously crafted over the last 10 years.

When the provincial government announced their plan for $10/day child care, the information provided to licensees was scarce, incomplete and overwhelming. Along with the funding from the government to reduce parent fees, there are also government guidelines that put some limitations on how we run our company. As we begin our journey with the CWELCC, we need to ensure that we can continue to offer the same great program quality that our families have come to expect.

The short answer is yes. Yes, we are enrolling for this year with the Canada Wide Early Learning & Child Care System. We are currently in the process of finalizing our contract and have received approval. We are just waiting on the final numbers from the county, but providing everything lines up with what we have agreed upon, then we are enrolled for at least this year.

What this means for parents is that in the next month or so we should be receiving government funds, and will be able to apply an average of a 25% rebate for any licensed childcare fees dating back to April 1st, for children 5 years and under. This rebate will be applied as a credit to your account, and taken out of future payments. Going forward, bills will be reduced by 25% through to the end of this year, once we receive confirmation from the county. The government plan would see this increased to a 50% reduction as of January 2023.

We ask for your continued patience as we work out details over the coming weeks on specific credit amounts for families.

The driving factor behind our decision was our families. We deeply understand the financial burden of childcare on the modern family and we see the significant financial relief that affordable childcare could bring. This plan is not perfect. There are many questions left unanswered. We have not been given clear guidance for how this plan will reflect inflation, rising material costs, affect wages & training, etc. However, for the short term, we believe this is what is best for parents.

The long answer is yes, we are enrolling for now. We are enrolling to offer parents financial relief but we are doing so tentatively and with apprehension. In the event that government restrictions are greater than disclosed and would negatively impact our program going forward, we may reevaluate our continued enrolment. If ever we decide to opt out we would give parents as much notice as able.

We appreciate our Bulldog Family and we are apprehensively excited to be able to offer this financial relief program for you. As always, we are humbled and thank you for choosing us to care for your children.

Ps. We understand enrolling in the CWELCC will not be the right decision for every centre. After extensive and careful evaluation, we have decided it is the right decision for Bulldog. We support the decisions of other centres to hold off for a better agreement for their organizations. We are not all built the same but we are all doing our best to provide for the families in our care.
